Porsgrunds Porcelain Factory was founded in 1885 by a shipowner, Johan Jeremiassen. Establishing the business, Jeremiassen co-operated with Carl Maria Bauer from Germany. This Norwegian factory fired first porcelain items February 2, 1887.

In 1909 The Porsgrunds factory produced first Christmas plates. After a few years they gave up production of these items and started again in the years 1968 - 1977. Their Easter series was produced 1972 - 1977.

The factory co-operated with Norwegian artists such as Ferdinand Finne, Theodor Kittelsen, Frans Widerberg and Odd Nerdrum. Since 1996 the factory has been owned by the Atle Brynestad company CG Holding AS. 

Porsgrunds Porselain factory is the only factory in Norway that still produces porcelain. Porsgrund is the main producer of porcelain flatware and products for the Norwegian royal family.
